And among the tools available on the market to protect them, Norton Ghost is possibly one of the best. It also worked flawlessly when I trashed a hard drive and had to restore it.The security of our computer and its files are vital. I have used Version 6.0 of True Image and the program worked great. I plan to check out Acronis True Image instead. Also, Ghost continued backing up on me when I cancelled out of the middle of a backup. Running a backup will take up all your resources and you can’t do anything else on your machine. Also, there is no way to do a backup in DOS mode, which with most other backup programs is much faster than backing up in Windows. In addition, it appears that in attempting to restore, I trashed the hard drive disk identifying info on the destination drive and I have no idea how to fix it. When I tried to restore again using some different settings, I got the “Error EBAB0003: This feature is not supported.” There is no tech-note or documentation anywhere on the Symantec site or the User Guide for this error. If I did something wrong with the settings backing up or restoring, I have no idea from the documentation. But after the restore, the drive would not boot and I got a disk boot error.

In DOS Mode recovery, I was able to restore in 28 minutes, which is decent. And when I tried to restore in Windows mode, it took 2 hours to restore 16% of that partition – I gave up. I backed up a 20GB partition using Ghost 9 and it took 4.5 hours on a Athlon XP1600 machine with 384MB of RAM – way too slow. Comments: Ghost 9 is total dogmeat, in the tradition of its companion products SystemWorks 2005 and Personal Firewall 2005.
